Between Gaze and Posture

Between Gaze and Posture

Authored by Katharina

The day of the shoot arrived and I entered the museum carrying a bag filled with curiosity and expectations about how the day might unfold. In retrospect, none of these thoughts were necessary. From the very first moment, Dan guided us through the shoot with a calm sense of assurance, gently correcting our poses when they became too deliberate, while still allowing us the space to simply be. Together with my best friend, an experience emerged in which we both felt beautiful — almost like a brief escape from everyday life, into another version of ourselves.

This shift in perspective took hold the instant we crossed the threshold of the museum. With the change of space came a change in how we perceived ourselves.

For me, modeling is not about being seen, but about revealing what usually remains unseen: posture, closeness, stillness. In a perfection-driven world, where we constantly exist under the critical gaze of society, modeling becomes an act of self-acceptance. It is a play with expression and strength — with a form of confidence we rarely allow ourselves to embody in daily life. Within this room full of history, it felt as though we belonged, if only for a moment — not as visitors, but as part of the scene itself.

This strength, this all too rare sense of self-assurance, was not only captured by Dan, but actively accompanied . Throughout this brief yet meaningful evolution of character during the shoot, he supported us in letting go of even the smallest trace of self-doubt. The resulting images are therefore not merely aesthetic to look at; they carry the emotions we were allowed to experience in that moment.

Above all, the shoot left me with a sense of encouragement — the encouragement to take up space. And with that the realization that one is allowed to do so, even when it initially feels unfamiliar.

It is an invitation to see art not merely as something to be observed, but to become a part of it yourself.
